In Italy, Roman Catholicism(羅馬天主教) is the largest religion. In 2010, more than 80% of the population is classified as Roman Catholic. As a major religion, it has great influence in Italian cultures such as architecture. Most of the famous buildings in Italy are also related to Roman Catholicism. For example, Milan Cathedral(米蘭大教堂), which is the largest church located in Italy. This Gothic(哥德式設計) cathedral building took nearly 6 centuries to complete, starting from 1386 to 1960. It is also one of the most representative buildings during Renaissance(文藝復興) period.
Apart from the major Roman Catholicism, there are other minor religious faiths in Italy. One of them is Judaism(猶太教). Jews(猶太人) has been present in Ancient Rome(古羅馬) and has been a major community in southern Italian cities. However, as a result of the Holocaust(大屠殺) in 1900s, only a small community has been left in Italy. |
